POETS IN VYSOKOPILLYA

‘Elves’ soldiers on Sunday.

Raising the ‘elves’ flag over Vysokopillya.

“Vysokopillya, Kherson Region. Ukraine. Today.”

Which had nearly 4,000 residents before the war.

The ‘orcs’ occupation authorities.

In Ukraine’s southern city of Kherson.

Have postponed a so-called referendum.

On joining ‘Mordor’, on security grounds.

Heavy ‘elves’ shelling had made.

A key Kherson bridge impassable.

Ukraine and its Western allies have denounced.

The referendum plans in Kherson and other areas as illegal.

Meanwhile, ‘elves’ forces have recaptured Vysokopillya.

A small town on the north edge of Kherson.

That gain is part of a counter-offensive.

In the south launched by the ‘elves’ army last week.

‘Mordor’ has been planning.

Referendums in Kherson.

And in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.

Most of which ‘Mordor’ controls.

‘Elves’ shelling had damaged.

Kherson’s Antonovskiy Bridge.

To such an extent that vehicles could.

No longer cross it.

‘Orcs’ have relied on the bridge.

To bring troops and hardware.

In and out of Kherson.

The first ‘elves’ pushing ‘orcs’ out of the city.

As well as Kherson, ‘Mordor’ has announced plans.

For referendums in other captured territory.

Similar to that held in Crimea.

After its troops seized the peninsula in 2014.

The civilians were urged to leave Kherson.

As fighting intensifies in the area.

Also warned that any who participate in the referendum.

Are liable to face ‘elves’ prosecution.

Who could vote in such referendums anyway?

The Crimea vote in 2014.

Held under military occupation.

Was not recognised internationally.

*Because I read “Ukraine war: Russia postpones ‘referendum’ in occupied region” on 6 Sep 2022, and also “Why are Ukrainians calling Russians ‘orcs’?” by James FitzGerald on 30 Apr 2022, on the BBC news.
So, I wrote this poem.
